School of the Warrior of Light

The Dojo is a sacred space where fear and weaknesses are removed through hard work and disciplined practice. The School of the Warrior of Light is a place where honorable people train their mind, body and spirit.
School is still in session at the Dojo!
Welcome to the Hikaru no Bushi Dojo. Our karate classes teach the basics of self-defense while simultaneously building the mind, body and spirit. Success in the martial arts is dependent on the amount of effort the practitioner is willing to give. Parents can expect their children to be motivated to pay attention, work hard, develop motor skills and environmental awareness. Although recreational sports provide an opportunity for exercise and competition, few sports are ambidextrous or offer foreign language education. Karate offers both with the added bonus of self-defense knowledge. Children that practice martial arts develop coordination and maturity that lasts their lifetime. Give a gift that lasts beyond the next trend. Practice with a purpose.
Adults that have never practiced martial arts or competed in sports tend to have less flexible, less durable bodies. But all is not lost. As the old adage says, ” it’s never too late”. Our bodies are in a constant state of change. We are either getting stronger or getting weaker, our minds more sharp or more dull. Every day we have the opportunity to improve our lives, our health and our outlook. Most of us spend the majority of our day earning money to support our lives, but little time improving the life we support. How often do we ”look forward” to a time with more money, so we can do all those things that will justify the stress we put ourselves through? Healthy food, exercise and meditation or prayer are the real rewards and do not require financial success. Healthy food is nearly free, if you have the patience to grow it yourself. The same can be said for exercise and prayer. How expensive is it to go for a swim right there at the beach or sit in silence for thirty minutes reconnecting with your spirit? The goods thing in life are free, LOVE – HONOR – GRATITUDE – PATIENCE.
We are dedicated to providing the best possible education to our students at a reasonable price. All you have to do is show up and work as hard as your spirit will allow. Your body and mind will soon follow suit. My first instructor kept the cost of his program down to allow anyone to participate regardless of finances. He believed that since money could not buy skill the students would have to pay with their time and sweat. Those that paid the highest price came out as masters and instructors. Those that put forth mediocre effort got what they paid for. In anything you do, the secret is hard work.
Modern competition in the United States has left this generation lacking motivation and direction. A policy of ‘everyone gets a trophy for attending’ breeds laziness and deteriorates our production of educated and determined citizens. We do not ‘give out belts’ for attending class. Everyone is required to perform at their personal best in every minute of every class. This is the only way we can improve; always has been, always will be. If someone is telling you that a pill or chemical will give you the same results as exercise or healthy food, ask them how much it will cost you. Since humans began walking on earth we have been trying to make living more convenient, more simple and ‘easier’. These short cuts usually land us in big trouble. Our food supply is 100 times less nutritious than is was 50 years ago, disease and birth defects are at an all time high (specifically here in the US) and we have so many ‘conveniences’ we can’t go a day without getting a spam email to spend our money on them.
There is no short cut, no convenience without cost. If you want to be healthy, eat healthy – exercise everyday. Think positively and challenge your mind with a variety of stimulus. Science and technology advances by the minute but humans take 9 months just to grow from conception to newborn. Our methods of training are just like the creation of good food, we provide nutritious soil and clean water so students can grow towards knowledge. Of course, you could always take your chances with 2 week courses and online degrees. However, the view from the top of a mountain isn’t nearly as rewarding without the climb.
